Meet our Community: Jennifer

This month we spoke with Jennifer to learn more about her journey locating housing in Central Oregon. Jennifer has lived in Central Oregon for approximately 8 months. In her free time, she enjoys engaging in art projects, gardening, and attending support groups. Before moving to Central Oregon, Jennifer completed a variety of art projects for her community. She has won multiple awards in art contests and completed window art for organizations.

Jennifer’s goals when she came to meet with Thrive were to work on housing and become more actively involved in community organizations. Due to a history of experiencing domestic violence, Jennifer has actively been working with Danica to locate and apply to safe and stable housing. After sharing her story with us for the newsletter, she called Danica moments later to let her know that she was approved for an apartment!

When asked about her experience working with Thrive, she said, “It has been excellent, reassuring, goal-oriented, and positive. They are very helpful to the needs of each person.” When asked how her perspective has changed since working with Thrive, Jennifer said, “It has given me more clarity in where I am going in life and that I am not alone. There are options.”

Jennifer’s advice for others out there who may be in a similar situation is, “Don’t give up. Try to utilize every organization you can and ask a lot of questions. Just don’t give up.”

Some words of wisdom that Jennifer wanted to share with others is:

“Giving up is not an option.”

Jennifer wanted to give a shout out to the Bethlehem Inn, Thrive, and NeighborImpact for their support. “Thank you for my new home,” she said.

Thank you for sharing your story with us Jennifer and congratulations on your new home!
