If you haven’t seen Thrive for your own needs, you’ve probably wondered what we actually do at our drop-ins and phone appointments. The reasons people see us are vast, but our approach is always person-centered and empathic.
Thrive's drop-in sites are at a variety of locations across Central Oregon. Whether it's a library, health department, or other community space, we always meet in a room that offers privacy.
Upon arrival, there is always a sign-in sheet with the available time slots for the day. You can write your name on the available time that works for you, and you can either stay and wait or return at that time. There are a few other signs on our door as well - letting you know you're safe and welcome with us.
When you come in for the first time, the Thrive Advocate will ask you what you'd like to work on - and go from there! No two meetings are the same for us. Often during the first meeting the Advocate will get some quick demographic information, but the bulk of the session is understanding what you'd like to work on and what brought you to us. We listen, offer compassion, empathy, and understanding- all of which are essential to our services. As our sessions are generally 30 minutes, the first one can feel really quick! We try our best to always offer some information or reosurce, even if we're just getting started and we don't have time for everything.
If you are looking for food, shelter, showers, and other basic needs, Advocates can help in the moment using our Resource Sheets and a quick call to confirm services. If you're coming in for help finding housing, there is usually too much information for one visit. The first visit is mostly informational. If that is enough and you feel confident applying on your own, that's totally fine! If you'd like help through the process, you are welcome to come back to a drop-in to continue working with an Advocate.
See our graphic below for what most housing assistance looks like when working with us:

You can see any Advocate at any location you'd like, and you don't have to keep seeing the same person. You are welcome to come back to a drop-in, or schedule an appointment, to continue working with an Advocate.
Though the housing process can be long - taking months, or sometimes years - we are there for you throughout the process if you want us to be :) Nothing makes us happier than seeing someone move into their home after a journey together! ❤️
